Web Help Desk

A Web Help Desk Provides Online Technical Support

What is a Web Help Desk?

A Web Help Desk operates on the Web and provides technical support and usually uses a browser as the customer interface.

Some methods customers use to request help are:

  • Submitting a request for help via an online form
  • Using live Internet text chat to explain the problem
  • Using Voice over IP (VoIP) to talk to a help desk technician
  • e-Mailing a request for help

Web support could be provided to customers by:

  • Using a browser to:
    • Supply links to applicable information and downloads
    • Perform self-help - searching a knowledge base
    • View Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
    • Linking to a section of an online manual that explains the installation, operating, troubleshooting, or repair process
  • e-Mail providing:
    • Step-by-step installation, troubleshooting, operating, or repair procedure
    • Links to applicable information and downloads
  • Explaining troubleshooting or repair procedure via live Internet text chat
  • Providing instructions via VoIP

Note: Web Help Desk and Internet Help Desk mean the same thing but will show you different Web search results.
